ART + GIVEAWAY
If you love art you are in for a real treat today as I'm highlighting the work of super talented abstract artist Julia Contacessi. Her works are serene, beautiful and ethereal. I have so many great photos of her work it was difficult to chose which ones to highlight for the post. Honestly, I don't think I could go wrong. Her works are not only beautiful in themselves but, as you will see, really make a space standout. And did I mention she is giving away one of her prints to one lucky Mimosa Lane reader?!! Who is feeling lucky, lucky? Let me tell you a bit more about her-
Julia Contacessi explains her process as a combination of conscious and subconscious exploration. With a focus on color, texture and composition, Julia strives to deliver an atmospheric, feel-good effect in every one of her pieces. Finding beauty in the contrasting nature of things, is what Julia seeks through her work. Julia graduated from the Pratt Institute and loves painting, photography and all things design. She is inspired by the simplest of things- from the edge of a gold glass vase to the texture of a stone found along a walk. As a way to hold on to these bits of beauty, she started creating art—trying to recreate the beauty she finds in life.
She is often drawn to the sea as a source of inspiration—"I’m fascinated by how the ocean provides an escape and can transport you to a meditative, dream-like place. My most recent work explores the water in abstracted forms to capture the fluidity of time. I see this recent series as a progression of my earlier landscape work—it’s almost as if I am trying to capture the same subject matter and inspiration in another form."
Through Julia's Artist Statement you can get a better sense of her creation philosophy- ‘Some days creating can be a battle, but then there is that moment when I layer on the paint just right — so that it dances in time and space. The canvas yields to my will, and I know I’ve just begun to capture something meaningful. That‘s when I have to catch my breath. It’s fascinating and wonderful, while at the same time, a struggle. That’s why I paint. My style is single-minded and focused on the simplicity of beauty in the moment. My goal is to drown out the noise and clutter to find a sense of calm. The end result is clean, fresh and modern.’ And here is some of her work-
